The role of Environs Te Uri o Hau

Environs,  Te Uri o Hau play significant roles in the Poipoia te Kākano initiative, contributing leadership, collaboration, and traditional ecological knowledge. Their deep connection to the land and ancestral wisdom shape sustainable practices and ensure the long-term success of our projects.

The role of Poipoia te Mauri

At Poipoia te Kākano, we are proud to collaborate with our Poipoia te Mauri team, another Pou of Environs Te Uri o Hau. Poipoia te Mauri activate to focus strongly on kaitiakitanga, through water testing, taiao monitoring, and restoration kaupapa, including the restoration of kauri affected by kauri dieback; the combined efforts of Poipoia te Kākano and Poipoia te Mauri committed to the rejuvenation and restoration of the Kaipara region. Through this collaborative approach, we blend our expertise and cultural wisdom to nurture and protect te taiao (the environment) for future generations.

Collaborations & partnerships

Led by Environs, Te Uri o Hau and supported by Auckland Council, Northland Regional Council, and the Department of Conservation, Poipoia te Kākano benefits from strong partnerships with local whanau, marae and community groups. These collaborations combine traditional knowledge with modern science to tackle pest control and habitat restoration challenges effectively.

Our vision is to make a significant impact on the health of the Kaipara Harbour, ensuring a thriving ecosystem that supports native wildlife and enhances the natural beauty of the region for generations to come.
